Judge Hooper accepts guilty pleas A woman charged with several others in an alleged home invasion/sexual assault incident in 2012, this week entered a guilty plea in Cocke County Circuit Court. Margo Gray, 31, Splashaway Road, Newport, was indicted on four counts of aggravated rape, three counts especially aggravated kidnapping, aggravated burglary, aggravated assault and assault. The indictment alleges that on January 12, Gray raped two individuals, aided and abetted by one or more persons. Two of the victims were allegedly imprisoned, along with a child under the age of 13, leading to the kidnapping charge. The indictment also said Gray burglarized the home and assaulted individuals with a knife. Two women told Newport police that three individuals forced their way into their Newport home, leaving one of the victims injured. The women said they were digitally penetrated by Jimmy Grooms, 46, Huff Road, Newport while Gray and Jacqueline Nicole Holt, 23, Sheila Drive, White Pine held them down. And one of the alleged victims, said Gray held a knife to the throat of her three year-old daughter. The victims also told police that Gray told Grooms to kill the child and her mother with the knife. Judge Ben Hooper sentenced Gray to an eight year term at 100 percent on three counts aggravated kidnapping, two counts aggravated assault, aggravated burglary and assault. The aggravated rape charges were dismissed in the plea agreement. The sentence will be served concurrently with a 152 month federal drug term that Gray is currently serving. Holt previously was sentenced to a four year term and Grooms is awaiting trial. Richard Sullivan, 41, Rankin Hill Road, Newport, entered a "best interest" plea to a misdemeanor charge of simple assault, and was sentenced to 11 months 29 days on probation. The plea agreement provides for Sullivan to have all his seized property returned to him. He was originally indicted on a charge of sexual battery by an authority figure, involving a 15 year-old female.
