KCCB has been busy Members of Keep Cocke County Beautiful recently were told last week that several recent environmental events were successful. A cleanup of the Douglas Lake area and Rankin Bottoms involved a number of volunteers and Cocke County Jail inmates.. Executive Director Tim Berkel said the event resulted in more than 200 bags of trash and about 20 tires being picked up during the weekend event. An electronics recycling event at the local Lowe's store on April 12, resulted in 10,300 pounds of electronics being recycled. Local members of the NJROTC assisted in the day long event. Berkel also reported a recent Litter Index survey resulted in a ranking of 1.22, not as good as in 2013, but the same level as 2012. He said the recent bad winter kept the two local litter crews from working as regularly as they would have liked, and as a result the litter has accumulated along rural roads. Still the ranking is admirable considering a ranking of 1 means no litter at all is found along the roadways.
