McKinney pleads guilty to robberies and home burglary
A Hamblen County man has pleaded guilty to two pizza robberies in Newport in 2012 as well as the burglary of a Newport home. Steven McKinney, 20, Short Drive, Morristown, pleaded guilty in Cocke County Circuit Court to the robberies of Christopher Leffew, a delivery man for Papa John's Pizza in Newport as well as the robbery of the Little Caesar's Pizza in the Five Rivers Plaza Shopping Center on December 27, 2012. McKinney pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated robbery in the case. A co-defendant in the holdups, Christopher Haney, 22, White Oak Avenue , Newport, is scheduled to go to trial. McKinney also pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary and theft over $1,000 in the burglary of the Mark Hill home on Lehigh Drive, Newport, in May, 2013. Circuit Court Judge Ben Hooper ordered McKinney to serve an eight year term concurrent with a Jefferson County case. The defendant will make restitution of $125 to Little Caesar's and $4,787 to Hill. McKinney also is to have no contact with Hill.
