Church members visit Jefferson County following last year's bus crash
A number of members of Front Street Baptist Church in Statesville, North Carolina, are in Jefferson County this week to express their appreciation to the community for it's assistance following an October, 2013 tragedy. A bus carrying church members of the church careened across the median of Interstate 40 after a front tire blew out on October 2. It collided with a tractor trailer rig and SUV, resulting in a fire. A total of eight people died and 14 were seriously injured. Fifty representatives from the church are visiting on a mission trip, including nine who survived the tragedy. They are helping those in need in the community. Today an ice cream social is planned for the U.T Medical Center where the injured were treated. Also planned are spaghetti meals for emergency personel and law enforcement who responded to the crash scene. The cooks will use the recipe created by Randy Morrison who was driving the bus when it went out of control and rolled. Both Morrison and his wife died in the crash. Church members also plan to offer a bible school for area children, and provide other assistance through community projects this week.
