Fire destroys camper
Cocke County authorities are investigating a Tuesday evening arson fire which destroyed a camper and it's contents at the English Mountain Dragstrip, off South Highway 321. Newport Patrolman David Clevenger on routine patrol, spotted the blaze at 9:30 p.m. but he said he saw no other persons or vehicle at the site. The owner of the camper, Randy Neal Grahl, Sherwood Drive, Newport told Deputy Andrew Clark the camper had been parked at the strip since July 12. An investigation revealed that the propane containers and battery had been removed from the camper before the fire. There was no electricity hooked up to the camper at the time of the blaze.Kitchen appliances and other items were inside when the camper burned. A master lock was found lying at the scene . Officer Clark said it had been cut and the chain used to secure the tanks also was found at the scene The blaze was extinguished by the Cocke County Fire Department. Grahl reported that the 30-foot 2011 Keystone Outback camper and contents were valued at $36,840.
