James charged with murder
A Cocke County grand Jury meeting in special session on Wednesday indicted a Hartford community man on charges stemming from the death of his neighbor in 2004. Boyd Regan James, 60, Big Creek Road, is charged in the May 25, 2004 death of Randy Grooms,36, a neighbor. Fourth Judicial District Attorney General Jimmy Dunn said James is charged with First Degree Murder, felon in possession of a firearm, and violation of the Sex Offender Registry. Following his indictment James was taken into custody when he appeared in court on an unrelated charge. He now is being held without bond in the Cocke County Jail. The body of Grooms was found lying on the living room floor of his residence, just inside the front door, said Robert Caldwell, who at the time was Chief Detective for the Cocke County Sheriff's Department. The body was found by Grooms' girlfriend, Buffy Dixon, who lived less than 200 feet from the Grooms home. Caldwell said the victim died of a gunshot wound . Prosecutor Dunn expressed his appreciation Wednesday to the Cocke County Sheriff's Department and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation for their cooperation in the investigation.
