ADA celebration
Saturday marks the 24th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and the progress made since its passage is being recognized across Tennessee. The ADA prohibits discrimination and ensures equal opportunity for persons with disabilities in areas such as employment, public accommodations, and transportation. Despite the advancements since the ADA became law, barriers still exist, including physical accessibility along sidewalks. Challenges also persist when it comes to finding employment. According to the Tennessee Disability Coalition, one million people in the state live with with disabilities. On average, these individuals are more likely to be unemployed and in poverty.
