Reed arrest
Cocke County authorities Tuesday, following a signal from a GPS device on a stolen truck located the vehicle at a Clear Creek Road residence. Lt. Ricky Holt said he went to the home of Jamie Dewayne Reed, 42, where the 2006 Chevrolet 3500 was located It is owned by a Greene County resident but was reported stolen from Knoxville on Monday. Reed initially did not allow a search of his property and said the truck had been brought to him for repairs, but he later allowed officers to inspect the vehicle. They identified it as the stolen truck valued at $15,000. Later Reed said he had purchased the vehicle Monday for $1,000, but Detective Jason Oury said he found that statement was not credible. Detective Oury called Sgt. Joe Walker of the Tennessee Highway Patrol Criminal Investigation Division to the scene to assist in identifying auto parts and numbers on items found on the property and in an outbuilding. A transmission from a 2008 Chevrolet truck reported stolen from Greene County in 2008 was recovered in addition to the truck. During the investigation narcotics officers also searched the residence, finding drug paraphernalia, including scales and baggies, four packaged bags of marijuana and hydrocodone pills. Reed now is charged with theft over $10,000, possession of marijuana for resale, possession of hydrocodone and possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond is set at $25,000.
