Douglas Lake evacuation
Residents of the Douglas Dam area in Sevier County are back home following a Wednesday night explosion. Officials of Sevier County Emergency Management said lightning struck a line leading to hydrogen/oxygen tanks near Douglas Dam. According to EMA Director John Matthews, the line lead to two 250,000 gallon hydrogen/oxygen tanks, and lightning struck the line going to the reservoir starting the fire. Tennessee Valley Authority says the tanks are located a quarter of a mile from the dam area. The tanks are used to oxygenate the water for fish downstream of the dam. Several residents and occupants of a campground were evacuated for several hours.
