Balch charged with attempted robbery
A Rutlege man who Monday morning allegedly attacked a female outside of the Huddle House on West Highway 25/70, in Newport ended up in jail. Charles Balch, 34, Spoon Hollow Road, allegedly grabbed Chasidy Allen, West Highway 25/70 by the throat at 9:30 am, and told her to "give me all your money." The 30 year-old woman screamed and Balch fled. Newport Patrolman Travis Gorrell found him hiding in a wooded area behind the restaurant. Balch allegedly admitted he had grabbed Ms. Allen. Officers say Balch was very belligerent, screaming, and acting irrationally "as if he was under the influence of methamphetamine or bath salts," the officer said. While being transported to jail, Balch kicked the windows and divider in the cruiser, and screamed random outbursts. Now the subject is charged with attempted robbery, public intoxication and failure to appear for a court case in Jefferson County. His bond is set at $25,500.
