Allende indicted
A Cocke County woman who recently sued the man who wrecked her car last year, now has been indicted on a charge she gave permission for the man to drive, knowing he was intoxicated. Edna L. Allende, 51, Silverwalk Way, Newport, alleges that Curtis Wayne Hanks, 47, of the same address was operating her 2005 Nissan in November, 2013 when he slid off the roadway in a curve and struck a tree. She says she sustained serious, permanent injuries in the crash, and demands $225,000 in damages. This week a Cocke County Grand Jury indicted Allende on a charge of DUI by consent in connection with the crash. The indictment alleges that she gave gave Hanks permission to drive her auto, and that he operated the vehicle while under the the influence. Hanks also recently was indicted on charges of DUI and vehicular assault charges stemming from the November crash.
