Cattle trailer struck on I-40
One cow was killed and several others escaped Thursday afternoon when the trailer on which they were being hauled was struck on Interstate 40 in Cocke County. Trooper Mark Self said the 5 pm incident occurred in the eastbound lane of the interstate near the 434 mile marker. A 2002 Ford F-250 pickup operated by Amos Wood of Georgia, was towing the trailer with six head of cattle when it was struck in the rear, the officer said. One of the animals was thrown onto the roadway and died, and the others fled. One was spotted along the interstate Friday morning. The operator of the rig which hit the cattle trailer, John Harris, Denton, North Carolina was charged with following too closely.
