Strunk to lead NU The board of directors of Newport Utilities this morning voted 4 -3 to offer the position of General Manager to a Scott County man. Brian Strunk is Key Accounts Manager for KUB and previously was associated with Barge Waggoner Sumner Engineers. Several months ago Glenn Ray resigned as NU General Manager under pressure and since than the board has been searching for a replacement. At the ten minute meeting this morning, member Charles Benson made a motion to offer the post to Strunk, and he was supported by John Bugg, Bill Whitson and Chair Kenny Morgan. "I was impressed with both candidates but(Strunk)is better suited for this particular job at this particular time," Benson said in explaining his motion. Those opposing the plan to offer Strunk the position were Jason Ramsey, Donald Large and Bill Costner. The board had narrowed the search to two candidates and met this morning to decide which candidate should be made an offer. Morgan will negotiate a package with the candidate, which likely will include a salary as well as a benefits contract. The Chairman said the board had reviewed resumes, and then had face-to-face and phone interviews with two candidates. Board members hope to have a package in place to consider at their meeting later this month.
