Gellert arrested again A Cocke County man was jailed Saturday morning on domestic assault charges as well as interference with an emergency call, and he says it was his third arrest for similar charges in the last two weeks. Kurt Gellert, Jr., 29, West Highway 25/70, Newport was jailed by Deputy Lt. Chris Gregg. Jillian Beth Gellert of the same address called central dispatch at 12:22 am to say her husband was smashing the windows from her van, and he had called to say his wife was trying to break into the home they share. Ms. Gellert said when she arrived home, she found the doors had been fastened and she could not enter. The woman said she entered the residence by crawling through a window. Ms. Gellert says she then was assaulted and her phone was taken. The officer was told the victim was struck numerous times over the head after being held in a head-lock and choked. Lt. Gregg said Ms. Gellert sustained facial and neck bruises, and abrasions to her knees. Mr. Gellert had used a cinder block to smash the windshield from the van., Officer Gregg says he was intoxicated at the time of the arrest. An examination of the residence revealed that the defendant had used screws to fasten the doors. Lt. Gregg said the previous charges against the defendant were dropped by Ms. Gellert when the cases went to court.
