Keys enters guilty plea A number of defendants appeared this week before Judge Ben Hooper in Cocke County Circuit Court. A Newport woman who chased and rammed a luxury car that she thought was being driven by her mother in April of this year was sentenced by the court. Marsha Keys, 41, West Broadway, Newport, was in the Lowes parking lot, operating a 2001 Chevrolet Blazer, when she was observed chasing a 2010 Lincoln MKZ around the store parking lot, ramming it from behind and then on the passenger side, as the driver attempted to flee. Keys told officers she believed the driver of the Lincoln was her mother. In fact the operator was Sharon Kerr of Dandridge who told officers she had never before met Keys. Kerr was not injured, however the damage to her car totaled more than $10,000, and Keys had no insurance. At a previous hearing, Kerr had told Judge Hooper that she did not want Keys to go to jail. She said she knew Keys had mental health issues. On Wednesday Keys pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated assault, vandalism over $10,000 and no insurance. Public Defender Keith Haas said Keys was in a "fit of anger" at the time of the incident and since has apologized to the victim. Keys said she views her jail term "as rehabilitation and I'm thankful for this time. Everything happens for a reason." Judge Hooper imposed a three year sentence but released the defendant on the seven months she has already served, with the balance on probation. She is to make trestitution of $167, and has been sued by Kerr's insurance company. Another woman who appeared in court on Tuesday to enter a plea to charges in six cases, instead was served with an additional offense. Pamela Warden, 32, North Highway 340, was charged originally with several burglaries and thefts, as well as traffic violations. But when Warden appeared before Judge Hooper, she was served with a charge that was returned in April by a local grand jury. She is charged with the sale and delivery of Oxycodone in June, 2013, in a drug investigation conducted by the TBI. The defendant was freed on bond so she could enroll in a drug rehabilitation facility.
