Whitlock Road fire
Cocke County authorities are investigating a Friday morning fire which destroyed a vacant home on Whitlock Road, Newport. Deputy Jonathan Ball says Cocke County and Cosby Volunteer firefighters responded to find the building engulfed in flames. Neighbors said the structure had been unoccupied for several months. Neighbor Darin Shults said he let his dog out and noticed the home across the road was on fire. The $80,000 home was for sale at the time of the fire. The ownership of the structure has not been determined.
