Is Insure Tennessee dead ?
Gov. Bill Haslam says he's not optimistic that his Insure Tennessee health care proposal will come back soon. Speaking to the Rotary Club of Nashville on Monday — just over a year after he first proposed to extend health care coverage to tens of thousands of low-income Tennesseans — the governor said he's not planning to ask lawmakers to talk about it again. Nothing has changed since intense opposition from legislators forced him to withdraw it last spring, he said. "It wasn't like we just barely lost," the governor said, prompting laughter. "Something will have to change in the state or the national scene for that to happen. To be frank, I haven't seen anything that gave me that kind of encouragement."
