Domestic assault incidents Cocke County authorities are investigating several domestic assault incidents reported Thanksgiving Day and this morning. Warrants have been issued for domestic assault and resisting arrest, in an incident involving Candice Leshea Sheffers of Wild Acres Drive. Deputy Joseph Owings said Sheffers took her daughter to see the child's father, Cory Hazelwood, for Thanksgiving. During a subsequent argument, the child reportedly was hit on the face and head. In addition Ms. Sheffers was grabbed by the hair and hit on the face and head. The officer was told that Hazelwood's mother tackled her son, allowing Sheffers and her child to escape. When officers went to the Hazelwood home on Ivy Hall Drive to arrest him, the suspect allegedly ran out the rear door, down an embankment and into a wooded area at 8 pm. Deputy Michael Shelton arrested Lisa Mae Whitten, 48, Ridgestone Way, Newport after she allegedly assaulted her roommate, Erik Buckingham, scratched his face and tried to tear earrings from his ears. The suspect then allegedly locked Buckingham out of the home they shared, at 10 pm. She is charged with domestic assault. Shannon Nicole Fisher. 23, Larch Road, Cosby, was arrested this morning by Deputy Lt. Chris Gregg. The officer was driving on South Highway 321 at 2 am when he saw a vehicle stopped in the roadway. The officer saw Tyler James, 27, jump from the auto. James told Lt. Gregg that he and Fisher had argued, and she then scratched his face and bit his ear. Fisher was charged with domestic assault.
