Teens injured in Bronco/golf cart collision
Two young boys each reportedly sustained fractures in a Friday evening crash involving a 1975 Ford Bronco and a golf cart,on Janus Road in Cocke County. Deputy Sgt. Brian Holt said the incident occurred at 4:40 pm, and closed the roadway for an hour. Jonathan David Lefever, 18, Moravia, New York was operating the Bronco on Janus Road when he says the brakes failed and he ran into the golf cart. Passengers on the golf cart were identified as Ethan Vanstratum, 13, Cookeville, Tn., and Blake Vanstratum,14, Edgewood Trail, Newport. Sgt. Holt said after being struck, the golf cart rolled, ejecting the two boys. The Bronco was following the golf cart down the grade, and Lefever said when the brakes failed he could not avoid hitting the golf cart. The Bronco came to rest in a nearby field off Epley Road. Officer Holt said the Bronco is owned by the father of one of the injured boys, and Lefever was in town visiting the family. Lefever and his passenger,Roland King, 9, Red Hill Road, Newport, were not injured. Medical helicopters flew the injured boys from the Cocke County High School and the hospital helipad to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville where both reportedly underwent surgery. A hospital spokesperson this morning did not return a phone call seeking the condition of the injured
