Fields charged with DUI and drug offenses
A Jefferson County woman was jailed Wednesday after she nearly sideswiped Newport Patrolman Jordan Douglas. The officer said he had to swerve to avoid a collision with Melody Fields, 38, State Street, White Pine, as he traveled on North Street at 2 am. After stopping Fields, the officer said the woman appeared intoxicated and had her 11 year-old daughter in the 1996 Nissan with her. Patrolman Douglas said he found Alprazolam pills in the auto. In addition, a bottle containing morphine pills, $1,720 in cash and Fields' identification card were found in the pocket of the 11 year-old. Another morphine pill and a wooden crack pipe also were found in the auto. Fields now is charged with DUI, failure to maintain lane of travel, possession of morphine, possession of Alprazolam for resale, possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of the implied consent law.
