Sneed faces additional offenses after starting jail fire
A Cocke County Jail inmate who allegedly tried to start a fire in the facility on Thursday now faces additional charges. Corrections Officer Sgt. Tyler Chambers said Mason Sneed, 20, Ridge Road, Hartford removed the cover from an electrical outlet, and then attempted to use the exposed wires to start a flame. Officer Chambers said the incident shocked Sneed, tripped the circuit breaker and created a small flame. The fire was put out immediately by Sneed. A new circuit breaker had to be purchased to restore electrical service to the jail. Sneed was charged with vandalism as a result of the incident, as well as 57 counts of reckless endangerment. The numerous counts stem from the fact that there were 55 inmates and two personnel in the facility at the time of the 10 am incident. The inmate was being held on charges stemming from 11 counts of aggravated burglary as well as drug charges.
