Meth events over the weekend
A Cocke County man is in custody after he allegedly kicked in a door of a home at 2:24 am today while under the influence of methamphetamine. The drug which often is home-cooked and and with use quickly devastates the human body is growing in popularity because of it's cheap cost. As pill usage is controlled, drug abusers are turning to less expensive substances. This morning Cocke County Sgt. Bob Schaff responded to a home invasion report on Sunrise Drive. Angela Thomas said she was in bed when her alarm sounded. She went downstairs from an upstairs bedroom to find Joshua Laws, 37, Long Branch Road, Del Rio in her living room. "Who are you and why are you in my house" asked Thomas. "My name is Josh and who the hell are you,?" responded the intruder. Laws had a toothbrush and toothpaste in his hands while standing in the living room. The intruder fled and drove through the lawn of a neighbor. Further investigation revealed he had kicked open the front door to the Thomas home, leaving damage to the door and frame of $1,100. Laws was stopped a short time later by Trooper Tyler Hall on Highway 411, and an inventory of the vehicle revealed a syringe and small baggies as well as three cell phones. The subject told Trooper Hall he had used methamphetamine on Sunday and was confused. Now Laws is in custody on charges of aggravated burglary, two counts vandalism and possession of drug paraphernalia. But there were other meth incidents in Cocke County over the weekend. Two persons were jailed Friday evening by Newport Patrol Officer Justin Johnson. The arrests were made after a traffic stop on Harper Circle. The driver was identified as Joseph Jacobs, 36, Fifth Street, Newport, and his passenger as Brandy Nicole Timmons, 33, Allen Road, Talbott. Jacobs was wanted on a probation violation and was driving on a revoked license. He was found to have meth on his person, and in addition clear baggies, three sets of scales, and a spoon also were confiscated. He is charged with possession of methamphetamine for resale, second offense driving on a revoked license and possession of drug paraphernalia. Timmons was in possession of methamphetamine, marijuana, Oxycodone and Haproxen, as well as a needle. She faces charges of two counts possession of a Schedule II drug, drug paraphernalia, marijuana and a legend drug. James Scott Hall, 40, Thinwood Drive, Newport, was arrested Saturday by Deputy Jonathan Ball after he and a female who said she was looking for her great aunt, went to a home on Needmore Road in Bybee at 10 pm. Hall had syringes of meth in his pocket and is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
