Sisk guilty plea A Cocke County man who last year led Newport police in a pursuit on Interstate 40, and then jumped from his moving car, Monday entered guilty pleas in Cocke County Circuit Court. David Sisk, 42, Seventh Street, Newport was wanted but fled from Newport Sgt. Amy Gentry as she attempted to stop the 1998 Lincoln on May 15. Sisk ran a red light and then entered the interstate westbound. The driver was traveling at speeds of more than 85 miles per hour when he suddenly braked, nearly causing the cruiser to run into the rear of his auto. Then the driver jumped from the car which continued westbound on the interstate. It eventually careening into the grass median, stopping when it struck the cables at the eastbound lanes. The suspect then fled on foot, running into a wooded area and escaping. An inventory of the vehicle revealed stolen items including a TV and two saws, which had been reported stolen from the Jerry Hensley home on Tabor Street. Sisk entered the plea to reckless endangerment, speeding, evading arrest by motor vehicle, due care and traffic device violations, resisting arrest and two counts theft over $500, before Judge Ben Hooper. Judge Hooper is to determine the manner and method the sentence will be served, at a later date. Asst. Attorney General Tonya Thornton said Sisk faces up to 18 years in prison at 45 percent if the court orders the terms served consecutively. The term will be served consecutive to a previous 10 year sentence for which Sisk was on probation at the time of the pursuit.
