Closings Local authorities are urging residents to stay at home today because of the overnight snowfall and icy roadways. The precipitation is compounded by low temps that will prevent the snow and ice from melting today, according to Meteorologist Andrew Pritchett of the national Weather Service in Morristown. All area schools including Newport Grammar are closed today, and Cocke County Circuit and General Sessions Courts are closed due to the inclement weather. Other offices in the courthouse are closed as well as Newport City offices.
