Meth charges lodged
A Newport couple now faces charges following the Monday execution of a search warrant at their home on Morris Street. Sheriff Armando Fontes said he and Drug Agents David Robertson and Danny Hartsell went to the home of James Brad McGaha, 31, and Amanda Lee Hill, 31, and they were assisted by the Newport Police Department SWAT team. The search warrant was issued after McGaha allegedly sold methamphetamine on more than one occasion from his residence to narcotics agents within the last six months. Agents seized a loaded 38 revolver, a shotgun, methamphetamine, Valium drug paraphernalia, ammunition, marijuana and $764 in cash. Sheriff Fontes said in addition to the cash, several tv's, tools and other items also were seized from the home. A large pit bulldog was taken by Newport animal control officers. Both subjects were charged with possession of methamphetamine for resale, and McGaha is charged additionally with possession of Valium ad marijuana as well as possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
