Collins injured in early morning crash
A one car crash on North Street in Newport this morning injured one woman. Patrol Officer Jordan Douglas said an auto operated by Luke Scott Gibson, 22, Cosby Highway, Newport, left the roadway and knocked down a utility pole at 1:14 am. A passenger, Christina Collins, 20, East Broadway, Newport, complained of chest injuries and was taken by First call EMS to the Newport Medical center for treatment. Initially the occupants said Collins was operating the auto, and that it went out of control while they were tuning the radio. But further investigation revealed that Gibson was the driver. Charges of driving while suspended, false police report, violation of the due care and failure to maintain lane regulations, all are pending against Gibson. Charges also are pending against Collins.
