CareerFirst to offer
A new program is offering area companies and businesses a chance to shape the workforce of the future. CareerFirst will host two employer summits this week to show employers how they can be involved in the new program, which will serve young adults ages 18-24 with intensive services to help them move into the workforce. Employer Summits are planned for 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, and Thursday in the Duggins Foundation Room, at Walters State. Both public and private sector employers from throughout Walters State’s service area are encouraged to attend one of the events. CareerFirst will offer young adults many services, but work experience may be the most valuable and is a priority. The program is looking for companies to provide work experience in many different forms. This may include summer employment opportunities, paid and unpaid work experiences, pre-apprenticeship programs, internships and job shadowing, and on-the-job training opportunities. The program also needs individuals willing to serve as mentors to young adults in the program. Young adults will receive intensive training before and during their work experience. Employers will also have the chance to interview participants. Reservations may be made by contacting Mary Beth Brady at 423-587-7034 or mary.brady@ws.edu. Employers who cannot attend the summit may call or email Lowe at 423-318-2708 or barbara.lowe@ws.edu, for additional information on the program.
