Ricey home fire loss placed at $250,000
A one-story brick home in the Woodacres subdivision in Cocke County, was destroyed by fire on Tuesday. And Captain Clayton "Skip" Ellison of the Cocke County Fire Departemnt says the owner David Ricey had no insurance on the $250,000 loss. The call to the home on Overholt Road was received at 11:30 a.m. and firefighters remained on the scene till 1:43 p.m. Ellison said the fire, which is believed to have started in the kitchen area due to electrical issues, claimed the life of the family cat, and only a very few of the home contents were salvaged. The Ricey family was not at home at the time of the blaze. Only four Cocke County firefighters were on-duty, and so the Cosby Volunteer Fire Department was called in to assist. Captain Ellison says the department has used up it's overtime money because of the extensive manpower needed during the recent wildfires, primarily in the Cherokee National Forest. He says the county likely will attempt to recoup some of it's costs from the US Forest Service.
