Corey Black indicted A Cocke County man has been indicted in connection with a fatal traffic accident on January 21, of last year. Corey Black, 21, Mulberry Avenue, Newport,is charged with vehicular homicide by intoxication, DUI, vehicular assault and filing a false police report. Black was allegedly operating a 2002 Honda Accord when it plunged down the mountainside after leaving Black Mountain Road in the Grassy Fork community at 12:05 a.m.. Trooper Mark Self identified the victim of the crash as Chelsey Williamson, 24, Armory Road, Newport, who was a passenger in the Honda. The officer presented evidence in the case to the grand jury. Initially it was thought that the vehicle was being driven by Cortney Shultz, 23, Rankin Hill Road, Newport, when it traveled down the mountainside for 250 to 300 feet, stopping when it crashed into a tree. None of the occupants was wearing a seat belt. Williamson later died in surgery at UT Medical Center and the other two occupants were injured. Bond for Black is set at $250,000. Cocke County officers and agents with Fourth Judicial District Drug Task Force spent Thursday rounding up those who have been indicted, however details and identities have not yet been released. Offenses include methamphetamine, cocaine, oxycodone, hydrocodone, oxymorphone and marijuana, as well as theft charges.
