Spring Cleaning drug round-up
The Cocke County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by the Newport Police Department and federal Drug Enforcement Administration worked Thursday to apprehend 45 individuals who were indicted by the Cocke County Grand Jury earlier in the week. “Operation Spring Cleaning”, was initiated at 7:30 a.m. and continued into the evening. A total of 23 defendants were taken into custody without incident and the remaining individuals are being sought. A total of 28 sealed presentments were handed down as a result of undercover drug investigations by the Cocke County Sheriff’s Office narcotic unit, 12 as a result of investigations by the Fourth Judicial District Drug Task Force, and five as a result of the work of the Tennessee Highway Patrol Criminal Investigation Division, targeting auto theft. Cocke County Sheriff Armando Fontes said this is the fifth year that the Cocke County Sheriff’s Office has conducted large scale round-ups in an effort to combat substance abuse problem facing the community. The primary drugs targeted by the Sheriff’s Office were Schedule II drugs including OxyContin and Morphine, the Schedule III drug Suboxone and Schedule IV drugs including Alprazolam. " Persons selling these controlled substances are destroying lives and disrupting families. We will continue to investigate and criminally charge any individual selling controlled substances," the sheriff said. Those picked up include; Larry D. Stanley, 35,Jones Street, Newport, sale and delivery of .5 grams or more of cocaine. Jovanda North,39, Alex Street, Newport, charged with sale and delivery of cocaine less than .5 gram. Jordanne Lindsey Samples,27, Edwina Bridgeport Road, Newport sale and delivery of methamphetamine. Eric Shawn Miller, 40, Big Springs Way, Newport, Pauline Lundy,57,Cedar Street, Newport, Jonathan Shelton,31, English Street, Newport, Oatis Franklin-Gossett,65, Hill Road, Newport and Donald Carver, 73,Shults Road, Newport, sale and delivery of oxycodone. Jeremy Samuel Ball,31, Smith Street, Newport, sale and delivery of hydrocodone. Kenneth Ray Brown, 47, Raines Road, Newport, sale and delivery of marijuana,possession of marijuana for resale and and possession of drug paraphernalia; Donald Williams,59, Shilo Way, Newport, two counts possession of marijuana in excess of .5 gram with intent to deliver; Ricky Shelton, 44, Melrose Way, Newport and Charles Cody Ball, 21,Chavis Road, Cosby, sale and delivery of marijuana. Jaqueline Rogers, 43, Big Springs Way, Newport, sale and delivery of marijuana and oxymorphone. David Parton, 35, Filbert Street, Newport, sale and delivery of oxycodone and oxymorphone. Christy Diane Phillips,38, Hunter's Way, Newport, three counts sale and delivery of Buprenorphine and Timothy Allen Loyd,42, Hunter's Way, Newport, one count. Dewayne G. James,43, Greystone Way, Newport, sale and delivery of buprenorphine, oxymorphone and oxycodone. Others indicted in the stolen vehicle investigation include; Audrey Lynn Toliver,46, Cosby Highway, Newport, altered vehicle identification number(VIN). Jamie Reed,44, Clear Creek Road, Newport, theft over $1,000 and two counts theft over $10,000. Gary Kelley, 57, Windsor Way, Newport, theft over $1,000 and altered vehicle identification number(VIN). Joshua Laws, 37, Shale Road, Newport, theft, theft over $1,000 and theft over $10,000 Robert Marion O'dell, 52, Jefferson Avenue, Newport, theft over $1,00 and altered VIN.
