Motorcycle crashes in Cocke County injure several
4/30/16 Moss motorcycle crash People rs Today at 2:50 PM To Citizen Tribune Message body Four recent motorcycle crashes in Cocke County injured six riders. Two crashes Friday evening were investigated by the Newport Police department. Sgt. Stephen Higginbotham said the 9:27 p.m. crash occurred on West Highway 25/70 at Generation Drive, injuring both occupants of a 2006 Harley Davidson. Belisha McKinley, 31, Cedar Creek Road, Greeneville, said she pulled from Generation Drive and her 2006 GMC Envoy was struck in the left front fender by the motorcycle, which the officer said left no skid marks. The cycle operator, Max Manner, 53, Allens Chapel Road, Parrottsville, and his passenger, Kelli Jolene Nesbitt, 49, of the same address were ejected from the cycle into the windshield of the of the vehicle. Both were transported by First call EMS to the Newport Medical center and then were flown to the UT Medical Center. On Saturday a spokeswoman at the facility said Manner was not listed as a patient however, Nesbitt was in stable condition. Both riders were wearing helmets. Ms. McKinley also was treated at Newport Medical Center.No charges were filed in the collision. Earlier in the evening, just before 9 p.m., three persons were treated at the Newport Medical Center following a collision on the Cosby Road at the Wal mart entrance. Nathan Meade, 36, Bristol, told Newport Patrol Officer tyler Medley that he was traveling on the Cosby Road on his 1999 Harley Davidson when the driver of a 1999 Nissan turned left in front of his cycle, attempting to enter the shopping center. The cycle struck the side of the car. The driver of the Nissan owned by Misty Caughron, Graham Street, Newport, fled the scene on foot. Passengers in the car, Kelsey Wolfe, 24, Edwards Way, Newport and her infant, Msdison, both were taken to the local hospital for evaluation. Although Meade was not injured, his passenger, Lura Meade, 34, was treated at the Newport hospital for possible injuries. A Newport couple sustained non-life threatening injuries Thursday afternoon when their motorcycle left East Highway 25/70 near the Wolf Creek Bridge. Trooper Paul Kilday said Charles Lynn Moss,59, Maple Ridge Way, was eastbound on his Harley Davidson motorcycle when the bike left the roadway in a curve. "He said the heavy cycle wouldn't turn in the curve. It went off the highway and into a gravel pull-off," Officer Kilday said. Both Moss and his 51 year-old wife, Tammy Sue, were ejected from the cycle. As a precaution, First Call EMS had the couple flown to the UT Medical Center in Knoxville for evaluation. "This is a new bike for the driver and I attribute unfamiliarity with the way the bike handles as the cause of the accident," the trooper said. Friday afternoon, Chris Norton, 45, Lark Road, Cosby, sustained non-life threatening injuries when his 2011 Honda motorcycle collided with a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado on the Cosby Road in Newport. Newport Captain Brad Ball said Jennifer Barnett, 38, Woodlawn Avenue, Newport, pulled from the Village Shopping Center, just as Norton pulled from the CVS store. Barnett said she didn't see the cycle before the collision. Norton was taken by First Call EMS to the Newport Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
