Operation Spring Cleaning
A former Cocke County Sheriff's Deputy and Detective was one of the suspects rounded up last week as part of “Operation Spring Cleaning” in Cocke County. Of the 45 individuals recently indicted by the Cocke County Grand Jury, 21 were taken into custody last Thursday and more over the weekend. David Parton, 35, Filbert Street, Newport, is charged with five counts of the sale and delivery of oxycodone and oxymorphone. Parton served as a deputy and detective for several years before leaving the sheriff's department to work as Parrotsville Police Chief. He left that post several years ago. Several other individuals named on sealed presentments returned by the Grand Jury, were taken into custody over the weekend. Deputy Logan Starritt arrested two women. Linda Sue Samples, 50, Highway 411, Newport is charged with the sale and delivery of a Schedule II drug in a school zone. Melissa Compton, 46, Whitlock Road, Newport, is charged with forgery and theft over $10,000.
