Tornado cost reimbursement
Remember the tornadoes that tore through area communities in 2011? The high winds tore off the roof of the Cocke County High School and devastated the Tanner School. Now the Federal Emergency Management Agency has released dollar figures which it says were doled out to help individuals, businesses and others affected.. FEMA says it paid out a total of $504 million after tornadoes touched down in Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee. The money was paid through relief aid, individual grants and disaster jobless benefits over the past five years. FEMA and the U.S Small Business Administration provided $70.8 million in aid to 8,845 individuals in Tennessee. "The success of community recovery comes through strong partnerships at the local, state and federal levels," said Gracia Szczech, FEMA's regional administrator. "Together we have focused on rebuilding communities that are stronger and more sustainable for the future."
