Driver in fatal Jeff City incident is charged
The driver in a fatal crash in Jefferson City on May 20 has been arrested for leaving the scene of a crash involving death. Zachary N. Davis, 21, of Morristown, was taken into custody on a warrant obtained by Sgt. Jimmy Cardwell. The deceased passenger was identified as Cleit Lance Everhart, 38, of Morristown. Jefferson City officers responded to the crash at the Marathon on Highway 11E at 1:16 am reported that the car had struck a supporting post attached to the roof covering the fuel pumps. Sgt. Ben Hammer and K-9 Officer Rick Johnson attempted resuscitation of Everhart but were unable to revive him. Officers later determined that the Davis had fled the scene on foot. He was spotted several hours later by a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputy as he walked in the vicinity of the crash. Davis was transported to a hospital for medical treatment.
