Child burns investigation
Cocke County authorities are investigating an alleged incident of child abuse involving a three year-old boy at a residence on Potts Way in the Bybee community. Deputy Logan Starritt said he was contacted by Harley Hembree, Scarlet Road, who reported that her nephew had been burned with a cigarette. The child told investigators he had been burned on the chest by an individual who he identified only as "Shannon". The officer said the boy told him that Shannon had burned him because "she was being mean to him." Deputy Starritt said he observed what appeared to be three burn marks the size of a cigarette. Although the child's mother reportedly said the incident "wasn't that big of a deal", Detective C.J. Ball and the Department of Children's Services have been called into the probe.
