Lane body recovered
The body of a Cocke County man who had been missing since Sunday afternoon was recovered Thursday afternoon from Douglas Lake in Jefferson County. Rodney Lane, 53, Cosby Highway, Cosby was reported missing after his boat was found in the water unattended behind AJ's Bar. The victim's 2002 Ford pickup and boat trailer were found in the TWRA Highway 25E boat ramp, which is adjacent to the bar, at 9:40 p.m.. Lane and a friend had reportedly been drinking in the bar earlier Sunday afternoon. Jefferson County Sheriff GW "Bud" McCoig says the body was recovered this afternoon. He said his department had been working with the Cocke County Sheriff's Department and TWRA in the search for Lane since Sunday. " We recovered his body between Point 14 and 15, between Indian Creek and Swann's Bend Bridge area. He was found floating by a fisherman who called us and we retrieved the body," the sheriff said. The body was taken to Jefferson Memorial Hospital by the Sheriff's Department and an autopsy will be conducted. Sheriff McCoig confirmed reports that the victim's shoes and underwear were found in his boat. "He apparently was wading in the water or doing something in the water," the sheriff said.
