Two arrested in road rage incident
Two men face charges in connection with a Monday road rage incident on New Cave Church Road in Newport. A motorist identified only as Z.F. was traveling on the Cosby Road with two passengers when he tells Cocke County Detective Robert Thornton he had to switch lanes, and inadvertently cut-off a blue Pontiac. As Z.F. traveled on the New Cave Church Road, he says the driver and passenger in the Pontiac made hand gestures and the passenger then pulled a handgun and fired two shots at at the victim's vehicle. The offender vehicle was spotted but sped away from Deputy Sgt. Bob Schaff, but later was stopped by Lt. Chris Gregg on Splashaway Road. The driver was identified as Patrick Hurst, 20, Lower Bogard Road, Newport, and his passenger as Jeffrey Dakota Stokley, 20, Highway 25E, Newport. Stokley was allegedly found to have a loaded handgun in his waistband. A search of the Hurst vehicle revealed baggies with methamphetamine, three digital scales, a meth pipe and a large number of baggies. He also had $280 in cash on his person. Both subjects are charged with possession of methamphetamine for resale, possession of drug paraphernalia, and three counts aggravated assault. In addition Hurst is charged with driving on a revoked license.
