Jefferson County I-40 crash during pursuit
A Knoxville man was injured Monday when he wrecked his car on I-40 in Jefferson County, following a pursuit by Knox County authorities. Barry Lee Warwick, 35, allegedly robbed the Pilot convenience store on Chapman Highway earlier Monday morning. At about 11 a.m. he was spotted by authorities who pursued him but he eluded officers. A short time later Warwick was spotted on I-40 and chased through Sevier County to the 410 milemarker at the Jefferson County line where he lost control. The suspect's car rolled 100 feet down the grass median, ejecting the driver. Warwick was admitted to the UT Medical Center however the Knox County Sheriff's Department indicated his injuries are not thought to be life threatening. The suspect allegedly rammed three cruisers in Knoxville during the pursuit, however the officers were not injured. Warwick now faces a robbery charge and other charges are pending.
