Adults graduate from high school
Graduates of the Cocke County High School Adult Education and the GED program wore their cap and gown Tuesday evening. And went home with their tassel. More than 90 graduates received their diploma from Director of Schools Manney Moore. Bryan Douglas, Supervisor of Alternative Programs suggested that graduation “is a springboard to future success.” Cocke County Sheriff Armando Fontes was the commencement speaker who called on the graduates to make good moral choices in their life. He also advised the students to “be yourself...don't strive to be someone else.” And the sheriff shared several other important adages with the new graduates. He called on them to be servants to the community, and suggested that failure is an opportunity to learn to do better in the future. “Listen to the advice of honest, decent people, hold yourself accountable and be responsible for yourself and if you can't say something nice about somebody, you should not say it.”
