Shooting and traffic crash update Officers from the Cocke County Sheriff's Department, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the Tennessee Highway Patrol are involved in a double-faceted investigation which began early this morning in Cocke County. Cocke County Sheriff Armando Fontes talked to the NewsSource early this morning at the Newport Medical Center where he was meeting with investigators and family members of the victims. "We are working an investigation which began at about 12:30 a.m. today. We have an incident involving the death of a child which involves a shooting. We have a seven year-old child who is deceased, and we also have a separate incident that we are investigating involving a traffic accident which resulted in the death of this same child's grandfather.” This afternoon the sheriff identified the shooting victim as Jayden Norton, North Hwy 340, in the Parrottsville community. The grandfather who died as a result of a motor vehicle crash shortly after the shooting, has been identified as Christopher Allen Russell, 54, North Highway 340, Parrottsville. The Tennessee Highway Patrol is assisting in the investigation of the single vehicle accident which occurred on North Highway 340. Sheriff Fontes confirmed that a handgun has been recovered from the crime scene and the investigation is ongoing. Added the sheriff, “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families affected by this tragedy.”
