Shooting/fatal crash probe continues Fourth Judicial District Attorney General Jimmy Dunn says the Cocke County Sheriffs Department and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation are continuing in their efforts to piece together the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of a Parrottsville boy and the subsequent traffic crash which claimed the life of the boy's grandfather. Cocke County Sheriff Armondo Fontes said Jayden Norton, 7, was shot to death in his home on North Highway 340, and a handgun was recovered at the "crime" scene. The shooting was reported just before 1 a.m. Thursday. A short time later Christopher Allen Russell, 54, of the same address died when his vehicle left North Highway 340, plunged down an embankment striking a tree and culvert. The Tennessee Highway Patrol has not released the crash report from that fatal incident. Dr. Robert Vick, Principal at Parrottsville Elementary School where Jayden was a second grader, described the victim as a very active boy. "He was a normal kid who played Little League football and baseball. He was well liked and active in the community. I would call him a normal seven year-old boy," Dr. Vick said. According to the principal, special activities are scheduled at the school today and counselors will be available. "We feel very supported here," he added. Attorney General Dunn said he has little information to release, pending the investigation by the TBI. The case he said,"is different than any I have had in a long time." "We just don't know at this time what led up to this incident. As in many investigations, we receive conflicting reports so now we are trying to determine what the truth is," the prosecutor said. Autopsies have been ordered and Dunn says he is hopeful that "they will provide some of the answers that we are looking for."
