Grassy Fork Walk/'Run
Its Back!!! Mark your calendars for Sunday, August 28th for FAMILY fun!!! The Grassy Fork Volunteer Fire Department will be hosting a “Double” 5K Walk/Run Sunday, August 28th in Hartford. The first race will be a standard 5K Walk/Run which will start at 2:00 pm and the second race will be a 5K “Color” Fun Walk/Run, which will start at 3:00 pm. Registration will open at noon. Both races will start and finish in front of Rafting in the Smokies at the Hartford Exit 447. The runs will go down and return on River Road along the Pigeon River towards Lindsey Gap Bridge. Endurance Sports Management will provide the official timing for the 5K run. Prizes will be given for the 5K run by age class. This year, two large bounce houses (a Fire Station and a Bengal Tiger) will be provided for the kid’s fun. The BONUS for this event, all proceeds from this fun family event will go towards supplies for the new fire station which is being built in Hartford. The timing of the two events allows parents to run the regular 5K Walk/Run and then participate in the 5K “Color” Fun Walk/Run with the kids. The “Color” Fun Walk/Run does not require the participant to complete the whole 5K (3.1 miles). They can turn around and return at any point in the run. Early bird tickets are $20 and $25 on the day of the event. Early birds can either register and pay online at www.runsignup.com/pigeonriver5k or stop by The Mustard Seed at 331 Cosby Hwy. in Newport. The Cocke County Sheriff’s Office will again close Hartford Road from the I-40 East bound exit to the Lindsey Gap Road for runner’s safety.
