Brotherton fire
Two men required medical treatment following a Tuesday home fire in the Rankin Hill community. Brenda Brotherton, Rankin Hill Road, told Deputy Jonathan Ochs that at 4 p.m. she put clothes in her dryer and then went to the home of a neighbor for a short visit. Later Brotherton says she heard her smoke detector sounding, so she went into her home where she smelled smoke. Two residents of the home, Leslie Jason Love, and Jimmy Mitchell Green, ran into the residence in an attempt to locate and extinguish the fire. They found the dryer on fire, extinguished the flames with water and then carried the dryer outside. The Cocke County Fire Department which responded to the residence owned by Rita Thomas of Morristown, said the home suffered only minimal damage. First Call EMS transported both Love and Green to the Newport Medical Center for treatment.
