Harvey arrest
A Newport man was taken into custody Wednesday on aggravated domestic assault charges after he allegedly beat his girlfriend in the presence of the couple's four year-old child. Norris Harvey, 27, Seventh Street, allegedly came home at 6:30 a.m. and an argument ensued with his girlfriend, Crissy Campbell. Harvey indicated that he had used narcotics and then held a knife to the face of Campbell, threatening to cut off her head. The victim then was dragged through the home by her hair, and her head was slammed against the floor as Harvey screamed and cursed. He also broke the phone of the victim to prevent her from contacting authorities. Eventually Campbell was able to flee the home and to ask a neighbor to summon help. Although Harvey fled the scene he was taken into custody on Smith Street by Newport Patrol Officer Joshyua Shults, and has also been charged with interference with an emergency call.
