Caughron pursuit and arrest
An Edwards Way, Newport man was jailed Wednesday following a pursuit by Newport authorities. Travis Caughron, 33, was arrested on the Bogard Road by Sgt. Billy Woody. Newport Detective Jason Ramsey had received information from store employees that Caughron had shoplifted at the Lowes Store and employees had stopped him in the parking lot. But the suspect fled and was pursued by Sgt. Woody at speeds up to 80 miles per hour. Caughron ignored lights and siren as he passed vehicles on the shoulder, including a school bus occupied by children. The officer said Caughron also drove into oncoming traffic and through stop signs, during the pursuit. Eventually the suspect pulled off the Bogard Road at a home, and ran inside. Officers found him hiding under a bed however Caughron refused to surrender. Eventually he was tasered and taken into custody. Now he is charged with fleeing to evade arrest, reckless driving, reckless endangerment, driving on a revoked license, speeding, possession of drug paraphernalia, violating traffic control devices and resisting arrest.
