THP to go door-to-door for information on recent shootings As the NewsSource reported Friday, the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security along with the Tennessee Highway Patrol-Criminal Investigation Division, are asking for help from the public. They are investigating reports of vehicles being shot while traveling on Interstate-81 in East Tennessee, and are also seeking the public’s assistance leading to the arrest of the individual(s) involved in several incidents in September. On Tuesday of this week, just after 9 pm, a bullet entered the front windshield of a vehicle, occupied by a family who were traveling north on I-81 at mile marker 10.5 in Hamblen County. State investigators are trying to determine if other jurisdictions have similar reports of vehicles having been shot at or who have evidence of bullet impacts after traveling on I-81 in East Tennessee. The agencies are also looking for information that might provide leads about the individual(s) that may be involved with the shooting of vehicles in the Hamblen and Jefferson Counties while traveling on roads or interstates. Morristown police have issued a warning for drivers traveling on I-81 urging drivers traveling I-81 to be alert due to random shootings on the interstate. .The Tennessee Highway Patrol said Friday officers will go door to door from exit 8 to exit 12 near I-81 asking people for more information on the recent shootings on I-81. They are trying to determine if a nearby resident may be target shooting during the evening hours. Individuals and Law enforcement agencies w3ho know of similar activities or who have information, information are asked to contact THP Sgt. Kevin Kimbrough, of the Criminal Investigation Division at (423) 426-6571, or Detective Lieutenant David Stapleton with the Hamblen County Sheriff's Department at (423) 586-3781.
