James arrested by Newport authorities
A Newport man who broke into a home over the weekend "trying to warn them(the occupants) about the election", ended up in jail. Newport Patrol Officer Christopher Silvers arrived at a home on Bowman Drive to find dirt from a flower pot covering the front porch. Michael James, 34, Tenth Street, Newport, told police he was trying to contact the residents, but admitted he had been using drugs prior to the 4:37 a.m. visit. The occupants of the apartment, Sabrina James and Jason Ball said they were asleep when they were awakened by banging on their front door. They then found a window shattered by a rock. James had allegedly cut two window screens and opened the broken window several inches. The subject is charged with vandalism and public intoxication, in the incident which left $280 in damage.
