Tom Testerman dead at 58
Long-time and respected Newport Attorney Tom Testerman died Tuesday at the age of 58. Testerman suffered a heart attack at lunch time on Monday and was flown to the UT Medical Center where he died. Active in the Cocke County Bar Association, Testerman had served as president of the organization on a number of occasions. He graduated from Morristown East High School, attended ETSU and then graduated from the UT School of Law before setting up his Newport practice in 1983. Attorney Julie Myrick describes Testerman as her mentor who was one of the most generous men she has ever met. "He was very compassionate and kind hearted. He took me in and mentored me from the time I began practicing law, and has been my mentor and confidant ever since." She says the late attorney assisted lots of people, both attorneys and lay people. "He took care of people, and if people couldn't afford to pay him, he took care of them too. Tom didn't leave anybody out. He was a very self-less, unselfish person who provided a great service to this community and to the many organizations he was a part of." "To me Tom was Cocke County and it won't be the same place without him," added Myrick. The funeral Service is planned for 7:00 pm, Saturday in the Manes Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at 1:00 pm Sunday in Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 pm prior to the funeral service.
