Jobless rates
Tennessee Labor & Workforce Development Commissioner Burns Phillips announced Thursday that the Tennessee preliminary unemployment rate for September was 4.6 percent, up two-tenths of a percentage point from the August rate of 4.4 percent. The U.S. preliminary rate for September was 5.0 percent. Over the past year, Tennessee's unemployment rate decreased from 5.6 percent to 4.6 percent . Total seasonally adjusted employment increased 14,800 jobs from August to September, and over the year, employment increased 71,300 jobs.
