Meth drug bust
A Cocke County woman who cooperated with authorities following the arrest of her poker-playing, drug dealing boyfriend in 2012 is back in trouble. Melonie Montanaro McMahan, 30, Alla Circle, Newport, was wanted on a federal warrant charging her with violation of her federal supervised release. Cocke County Drug Agent David Robertson said he spotted McMahan and knew she was wanted by federal authorities. A passenger in her auto was Matthew Allen Presnell, 30, Keener Road, Cosby. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed 1.7 grams of methamphetamine, two hypodermic needles, straws, 148 baggies, Naloxone and Suboxone. Agent Robertson said after questioning the subjects he was told they didn't know who the drugs and paraphernalia belonged to. As a result both are charged with possession of methamphetamine for resale, possession of schedule III drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia. Four years ago, Ms. McMahan was ordered to serve a 36 month prison term, followed by seven years of supervised release. She also was ordered to undergo 500 hours of drug rehabilitation, but also was to be offered education and technical training. McMahan admitted she had assisted William "Billy Mac" McMahan, Jr., 41, in dealing drugs and running to pain clinics in Florida to obtain prescription pills. He received an 18 year prison sentence and a $1 million fine.
